Scores of protesters today stormed the Government House, Calabar, Cross River State with sleeping mats and placards to protest the non-payment of their September and October salaries. The protesters, easily identified as being part of the 500 science subject teachers, recently eased out of their jobs by the state government also demanded their reinstatement into the state’s payroll.

Tight security was still visible at press time as the protesters spread out mats and lay on them outside the Government House gate on Leopard’s Town Road, defying all pleas by security agents to leave the vicinity. We can also inform that the protesters who have peacefully staged this protest have written several messages on the placards they are carrying.

“I do not know what else to do. One minute I had a job and was earning a small salary, now, I am not sure I have a job. Even the salary that I have worked for, my state government, has held it back. I have come to join others who are in the same boat with me, I don’t know what else to do because what we are now experiencing is the height of insensitivity on the part of the state government; I am like many, very frustrated”, one protester told www.calitown.com.
It however does not look like respite may be coming the way of the protesters soon.
More details shortly…
