CR Lifts Order Suspending Public Worship, But…

Posted on May 20, 2020 By Admin No Comments on CR Lifts Order Suspending Public Worship, But…

Weeks after the Cross River State Government suspended all forms of public worship, Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has lifted the order suspending public worship in the state. A directive to this effect is contained in a press release signed by Christian Ita, Chief Press Secretary to the governor and indicates that this order is hereby lifted with effect from Sunday May 24th. 2020.

However, the state government is insisting that, “church services are permitted but should be limited to the sitting capacity of the Church. Same applies to the Mosques.”

Furthermore, the use of nose mask is compulsory for all worshipers, just like Churches and Mosques have been directed to provide buckets for hand washing, or sanitizers. Churches and Mosques are sternly advised to adhere to these instructions as the Covid-19 enforcement team will still go around to check and monitor compliance.

The release adds that the state governor is “grateful to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, Pastors, Christians of various denominations, and the entire Muslim community for their support and cooperation during the period of suspension of public worship in our state in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.”
