Two years and four months after Nigeria’s former Senate President, Joseph Wayas, died in a London hospital, his corpse has been sighted for the first time in a London morgue by two persons, Donna Wayas, daughter of the deceased and Echiko Julie Odey, both based in the UK, on behalf of some concerned and eminent Cross Riverians, www.calitown.com can reliably inform.

Justice Maurice Odey Eneji, Chairman of the Joe Wayas’ Burial Fact Finding Committee, in a report sighted by www.calitown.com, revealed that N13,366,320, (thirteen million, three hundred and sixty six thousand, three hundred and twenty naira) was demanded by the morgue and payment made before they were granted access to the corpse.

The very detailed report, dated February 27, 2024, revealed further that the payment covers the cost of maintaining the corpse and sundry expenses over a two year, four months period. It also stated that the committee had been “…proactive, holding regular meetings, and was dedicated to ensuring the repatriation of the body for burial.”

An additional £60,478 is required to get over the finish line and the committee has launched a heartfelt appeal to raise the necessary funds. “According to the burial committee’s agreement with Ms Donna Wayas, we need to raise and transfer the sum of £60,478 to settle all outstanding debts, including the cost of repatriating the corpse to Nigeria for burial. We also need to refund the £7,210 paid on our behalf to the morgue managers in London,” Justice Eneji said.

Wayas, Nigeria’s Senate President between 1979 – 1983, died on November 30, 2021 in a London hospital.

Provide details of the facility. Let it be open. Please show all bills paid and unpaid in order for the Nigerian people to see. If you want to wash dirty laundry in public then be prepared for it to be cleaned.
