Grimah, shortly after the meeting.

Ahead of the November 2, 2024 local government election in Cross River State, the state Commissioner of Police, Gyongon Augustine Grimah, has given assurance that the exercise will be a peaceful one.

Briefing the media shortly after the state security meeting presided over by the state governor, Bassey Edet Otu, Grimah disclosed that the focus of the meeting was the scheduled November 2, 2024 local government election.

Grimah said: “It was critical that we had to meet ahead of the election in order to strategize to ensure a peaceful exercise. The people of Cross River State are known for their peaceful nature and we are confident that this would be reflected before, during, and after the elections.”

He assured citizens that they should feel free to exercise their voting rights, as the environment would be conducive for all. “All relevant security agencies in the state are united and have fully deployed their resources to guarantee the safety of citizens and maintain law and order during the elections”, he added.

Grimah, however, cautioned that anyone considering the disruption of the peace and harmony of the state during the elections, should abandon those thoughts now.

He further noted that “with security agencies fully prepared and collaborating to ensure a peaceful electoral process, the citizens of Cross River State can confidently exercise their voting rights without fear.” He urged the electorate to embrace the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state and come out to vote on the election day.
