Chief Whip of the Cross River State House of Assembly, CRSHA, Hilary Bisong, says he is proud to announce his sponsorship of a new bill targeted at improving the welfare of retirees and senior citizens in the Local Government Service of Cross River State.
Bisong who spoke in Calabar, Cross River State, on the heels of his presentation of the “Cross River State Local Government Pensions Bill” on the floor of the House, informed that this bill seeks to guarantee that local government retirees receive their pensions and gratuities on time, regularly, and without delay.
He further disclosed that the proposed legislation will establish a dedicated team to manage and oversee the pension fund, ensuring that the distribution of funds is done efficiently, transparently, and responsibly. “With this bill, our retirees will no longer have to endure the uncertainty or long waits for the benefits they rightfully deserve.”
“As a representative of the people, I believe it is vital to honour those who have spent their careers serving our state. Our retirees have contributed greatly to the development of Cross River State, and it is only fitting that they are rewarded with the security and financial peace of mind they deserve in their retirement years.”
On the proposed creation of a management team to handle pension payments, he said this is an essential step towards ensuring regularity and accountability in the system. “I am confident that this initiative will go a long way in enhancing the lives of our senior citizens, ensuring they no longer live with the fear of their entitlements being delayed or forgotten.”
“As this bill moves through the legislative process, I am hopeful that it will set an example for other states to follow. Retirees across Nigeria deserve to live their later years with dignity, knowing that they are financially supported.”
The legislator reiterated his commitment to supporting state governor, Bassey Edet Otu, as he works at improving the lives of Cross Riverians especially retirees and senior citizens through legislations of this nature.
