The maiden Ugep Open Table Tennis Tournament, drew to a close Sunday evening, with Isaac Ettah emerging men’s champion after defeating his opponent, James Ofem, in three straight games to win the tournament star prize of ?100,000 (one hundred thousand naira). James Ofem took home the runner-up prize of ?40,000 (forty thousand naira).

They were also prizes for young boys and girls who won in the young participants category.

Okoi Arikpo Omini, CEO of Blakkam Urban Livestock & Farms Limited, organisers of the event, maintained to www.calitown.com that the next event will be an improved one, with competition prizes also improved. “Like I have maintained, this is an experiment that will be improved upon as part of our corporate social responsibility to our host community. This experiment will also help us expose several indigenous young persons to the game of table tennis and see how we can begin to raise table tennis table stars from this community”, he said.
