Cross River State governor, Bassey Otu, has lauded the elevation of Commissioner of Police, Ofem Ikpi Arikpo, describing it as “well deserved and profoundly inspiring,” while also commending the Ugep community for organising a civic reception in his honour. The Governor said the historic recognition of Arikpo as the first son of Ugep to attain the rank of Commissioner of Police reflects the community’s deep appreciation for merit and excellence.

Reacting to the colourful reception held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the governor noted that the honour bestowed on Arikpo was both timely and significant. “This remarkable celebration is a fitting tribute to a distinguished son of Cross River State whose rise within the Nigeria Police Force has been defined by discipline, dedication, and integrity,” he said. “It is a proud moment not just for Ugep, but for the entire state.”

He emphasised that Arikpo’s promotion was the product of years of hard work and unwavering commitment to duty. “The elevation of CP Arikpo is not accidental; it is the culmination of a career built on professionalism, resilience, and an unblemished record of service,” Otu stated. “His journey reinforces our belief that diligence and integrity will always find their reward.”

He further praised the Ugep community for recognising one of their own, noting that such gestures serve as a powerful source of motivation for younger generations. “When a people pause to celebrate excellence, they plant seeds of aspiration in the hearts of their youth,” the Governor remarked. “This civic reception sends a strong message that hard work, honour, and service to humanity are values worth emulating.”

Speaking on Arikpo’s background, Otu highlighted his steady rise through the ranks, describing it as both inspiring and instructive. “From his early education in Calabar to his academic accomplishments at the University of Uyo, and his professional formation at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, CP Arikpo has consistently demonstrated a commitment to personal growth and national service,” he said.

The governor also underscored Arikpo’s vast operational experience, particularly his rare achievement of commanding multiple Mobile Police Squadrons across the country. “Serving as Commanding Officer in Kebbi, Ogoni, Katsina, and Borno States is no small feat,” Otu noted. “It speaks to his courage, leadership capacity, and readiness to serve in some of the most demanding security environments.”

On his administrative competence, the governor pointed to Arikpo’s tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and Finance in Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa State Commands. “In these critical roles, he distinguished himself through diligence, sound judgment, and an exceptional grasp of institutional governance,” he said. “These qualities have rightly earned him this elevation.”

The governor congratulated the police chief, urging him to remain steadfast in service. “I congratulate CP Ofem Ikpi Arikpo on this well-earned promotion and commend the Ugep community for this honour,” he said. “As he assumes greater responsibilities, I urge him to continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and dedication in the service of our nation.”
