Edodi Edodi Eyong, Chairman of Biase LGA, says he did not at any point or function endorse the member representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, Emil Inyang, to return to the House of Representatives for a second term.
In a press statement signed by the Chairman, he states that, “I attended the said meeting in Calabar strictly in response to an invitation communicated as an Easter Stakeholders’ and Constituents engagement. My presence, alongside other leaders of Biase, was purely to honour that invitation in good faith and in line with established political courtesy.”
“At no time was any endorsement agenda presented, discussed, or agreed upon in my presence. In fact, I and the leadership of Biase had exited the venue before any such action was allegedly carried out.”,
He also stars that it is “deeply concerning and disappointing that my name and office have been associated with an act that I neither participated in nor consented to. Such a development amounts to a serious misrepresentation of fact and raises questions about the intent and credibility of the process that followed our departure.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I am a party man who operates strictly within the framework of party discipline and established political hierarchy. I do not, and will not, engage in or support any form of political endorsement without the clear directive and guidance of His Excellency, Sen. (Dr.) Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State and Leader of the Party in the State.”
In the video of the event, obtained by www.calitown.com, where the council chairman spoke, he did not appear to make any reference to an endorsement and appear to only wish the Reps Member well after a period of political disagreement.
After initially speaking to us when contacted on the issue, early this morning, Inyang was unavailable at 11.30 am, when called back to see if a few edges could be smoothened out before press time.
More to follow shortly.
