While he may have left office as governor of Cross River State, www.calitown.com can reveal that former Governor Liyel Imoke’s house was a beehive of activities in the early part of this week, up till yesterday, as several appointment seeking politicians in the state trooped to his private residence as word went round Calabar that Imoke and wife, Obioma were in town.
Most of those who visited the residence seem to be buoyed on by the fact that state governor, Ben Ayade, is yet to constitute his executive council as well as several other appointments into government boards and parastatals.
The road leading to the private residence located off Third Avenue, State Housing Estate, Calabar, had to be cordoned off by stern looking security personnel, overwhelmed by the large number of people who sought audience with the Imokes. A source told www.calitown.com that, “many of those in Imoke’s house are looking for appointments into Ayade’s government and seem to have the believe that if Imoke puts in a word for them, it will be a done deal. I am even shocked that those who have been very loud with their criticism of Imoke, have secretly come here to plead for forgiveness and then ask for favours; you see the nature of our people?”
When our reporter drove past the Marian Road axis of Imoke’s street at about 1.56 pm, local time, several cars were parked, purportedly waiting to escort the Imokes to the Margaret Ekpo International Airport to board their afternoon flight out of Calabar to Lagos. Imoke and wife have since left town.
