Headache For PDP As House Of Assembly Re-Run Election Beckons

Posted on March 11, 2016 By Admin No Comments on Headache For PDP As House Of Assembly Re-Run Election Beckons

pdpIt has emerged that tomorrow’s re-run House of Assembly elections in Yakurr II State Constituency, Cross River Central, has in the last couple of days given the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leadership in the state sleepless nights as most opposition figures in the state seem to have thrown their weight behind the Labour Party’s Eno Utum Inah, who is challenging the PDP’s Eteng Williams, sacked from the House of Assembly recently by the Justice Onyekachi Otisi led Appeal Court in Calabar.

Sources in the area informed www.calitown.com that opposition figures in the mould of former Chief of Staff to Liyel Imoke, Alex Egbona, have carried out sustained campaigns in the constituency and doled out money and gifts with a promise to do more if the opposition candidate, Inah, wins at the polls.

A further source of concern and worry for the PDP members is the fact that security personnel posted to the area for the election hae been unable to reach the area owing to lack of funds to convey them. At press time, a contingent of policemen waiting to be deployed to the area was still holed up at the Diamond Hill, Calabar headquarters of the police in Cross River State.

Again, certain top-notch members of the PDP and some House of Assembly members, were on the strength of a petition written to the Directorate of State Security, DSS, take in for questioning, all of this week. Information available to www.calitown.com revealed that the questioning is connected to mounting fears in the area that most of those quizzed are behind a plot to help rig this election. A few of those spoken to on condition of anonymity insisted to www.calitown.com that the petition is ill-conceived and shows that the PDP has enough clout to win this election.

Opposition figures in the area are said to be, as a campaign strategy, offering commissioning into the Nigerian Navy in a bid to lure most young people to vote for Inah.
