A young man in his thirties was late Tuesday night arrested by a police patrol team, after a distress call was put out, as a group of men suspected to be armed robbers terrorized residents of a section of Ekorim I, a high brow area in Calabar Municipality.

The suspects are believed to have commenced operation a little after 11pm, attempting to break into one of the houses in the area at gunpoint. “They put off our generator and probably expected that we will open our door and come out; but I had noticed strange movement outside and we stayed put. I had to alert some people in the area who quickly mobilized and intervened. Yes, there were sporadic gunshots from the suspects and some of them escaped while one was apprehended and handed over to the police”, one source told www.calitown.com.

It is widely believed in the area that the suspects were responsible for last week’s armed robbery incident, on the same street. Furthermore, residents of the street are claiming that the suspects returned because they met no resistance in the first robbery. The suspect appears to have been thoroughly attacked after attempting to shoot at the group of boys who intervened. At press time, large amounts of blood were still visible on several portions of the street while we cannot say if the suspect is still alive. Police sources have confirmed that investigation is ongoing.
