Cross River Records Meningitis Related Death

Asibong, CR Health Commissioner

While the Cross River State Government appears to be working to contain the current outbreak of meningitis in the country, Health Commissioner, Inyang Asibong, has confirmed the meningitis related death of one person, a teenager, at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Asibong who disclosed this in Calabar, also confirmed the admission of other persons currently under medical care at the UCTH. However, allegations are flying that some unscrupulous health officials are illegally collecting money from members of the public before administering the meningitis vaccine, an allegations we were unable to ascertain at press time.
