Kennedy Chiduziem Ekezie-Joseph, an alumnus of the University of Calabar, presently at the prestigious Yenching Academy, China, has launched his latest initiative, AFRICAVE, www.calitown.com can reveal.

AFRICAVE we gather, will assemble “…some of the brightest young Africans, who are pushing the envelope in their various fields and industries to serve as mentors and growth buddies for younger Africans aged 13 – 19.”

The initiative further seeks to, “unlock the potential inherent in this population by empowering them to become future leaders through personalized mentorship and guidance to access global opportunities. Fellows use these opportunities to impact the world and create a legacy.”
It was also disclosed that the six-month-long mentoring initiative will “connect selected young Africans with mentors, who guide them to become the best version of themselves, helping them grow personally and professionally”.

Applications for the first programme cycle open on March 4 and close on March 28, 2019, while the second cycle begins in April and runs to October, 2019. While applications or nominations for young Africans all over the world are welcomed, Africans residing in Africa are strongly preferred. Applicants must be ready to commit at least five hours over a six-month period for mentoring sessions with a mentor, proactively seek to build a relationship and make the most out of a mentoring relationship. Applicants will also participate in monthly check-in and feedback calls with the Africave team, just like they will complete an end-of-programme feedback and be responsible Africave Ambassadors in words and deeds.

The ideal candidates should have the following attributes: Be aged between 13 – 19, have a desire to proactively grow personally, academically and professionally as well as possess a high degree of self-motivation, drive, and willingness to learn, try new approaches and drive resolution of issues. A deep sense of cultural commitment to the development of Africa and its people, the possession of a positive and proactive approach to building relationships, are also attributes that count.

*Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview to assess their fit for the programme.
