Alex Egbona Wins Abi/Yakurr House Of Reps Seat, But …

Alex Egbona

We can inform that while the House of Representatives election for the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Cross River State, appears to have been won by Alex Egbona, there is a legal issue, unknown to many that may scuttle Egbona’s victory.

Sources inside the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Calabar, pointed www.calitown.com to a letter with reference number INEC/LEG/DR/32/1/391/T27, of 22nd February, 2019, addressed to the Resident Electoral Officer, Cross River State. The letter, drew the attention of the REC to a Court Order contained in Suit No. FHC/CA/CS/731/2019, between Godwin Etim John V. APC & ORS and directed that, “…the names of candidates submitted by APC for Governorship, Senatorial, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly for CRS be removed from the list of candidates for the election in compliance with the said order.”

On the strength of this letter, the name of one Egbe Eworo, appears to have been forwarded this afternoon to Abuja, to be declared winner of the election. We were further informed that, this decision will however be a tough one for INEC to pull through with as Egbona has received legal advice on the relevant implications of this action and the need to carry through his victory with legal backing.
