Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has received praise from the people of Okuni, Ikom Local Government Area and especially from the family of a lady, recently gang raped in the community, for his directive to Joe Abang, Attorney General of Cross River State, to immediately provide legal representation to the victim, at givernment’s cost, throughout the case prosecution period.

The husband of the victim and one other person, who accompanied the victim to the farm, were overpowered, hands and legs bound while the suspects carried out the action.

This unfortunate incident was responsible for the protest march embarked upon by Okuni women this past April. The protest and several petitions from the area are believed to have attracted Ayade’s attention with the governor expressly deploying Betta Edu, DG, CRS Primary Health Care Agency, to the victim.

Edu brought succour to the victim in the form of financial support from Ayade, to start a business with further promises to do more. The victim conveyed his appreciation to the governor through Edu and prayed for the protection of the governor.
