Cross River State governor, Bassey Edet Otu has granted scholarship awards to the children of late Offiong Effiwatt, an avowed supporter of the governor, who tragically died on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023, in Calabar.

Otu who announced this scholarship award during a condolence visit to the deceased home in Calabar South, expressed sadness at the passing on of Effiwatt, at a relatively young age.

“I am here today to assure his wife, Jumoke, the children and the family he left behind that Offiong will be sorely missed and I have undertaken to place the children on scholarship,” the governor said.

Expressing himself in the condolence register, Otu wrote that Offiong’s death is a; “…very, very sad moment for all of us, friends of yours. We are going to miss you dearly. We love you, but God loves you more. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
