Fake Doctor Nabbed In Abi LGA, Remanded In Prison

Posted on July 14, 2024 By Admin 1 Comment on Fake Doctor Nabbed In Abi LGA, Remanded In Prison

One Collins Emeka Orji, who opened and ran a medical facility in Ngarabe, Ekureku, Abi LGA, Cross River State, laying false claims to being a medical doctor, has been arrested by the police and remanded in prison custody by the Magistrate court in Itigidi, Abi LGA.

Reliable sources in the area informed www.calitown.com that Orji ran Excellent Hospital, Ngarabe, Ekureku until the Cross River State Task Force on Health Quality and Anti Quackery visited his facility on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

“When the task force got to the facility with a team of police officers from Itigidi, they met Orji and after interacting with him, it was discovered that he was not a medical doctor and had no medical training. His facility was also not registered with the state government”, one source told us.

In a video of the interaction sighted by www.calitown.com, Orji is seen laying claims to being trained as a homeopathic doctor and could not even validate this claim.

He had no license to practice medicine and surgery in Nigeria and did not attend any medical institution, but carried out surgical operated on his patients in his consulting room and had no qualified nursing staff. The two young girls the task force met at the facility masquerading as nurses, confessed during interrogation that they were only working there as volunteers after both dropping out of secondary school, they had no nursing training.

When we spoke with Dan Abubakar, a medical doctor and head of the task force, he confirmed this story and added that, “…satisfied that he had no registrable credentials with Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria, we sealed Excellent Hospital, Ngarabe, Ekureku, before we took him to the police station, Itigidi.”

Orji who appeared before the Magistrate court, Itigidi was tried and granted bail. Unable to meet the bail conditions, he was remanded in prison custody at the Obubra Correctional Centre and the matter adjourned to August 9, 2024, for further hearing.

Independent investigations carried out by www.calitown.com also show Orji had in the past operated a medical facility in Ugep as St. Collins Hospital, in Ibogo, Biase LGA as CommonWealth Clinic and now Excellent Hospital Ngarabe Ekureku in Abi LGA.

if the medical facilities in Ekureku were prioritized by the government this things wouldn’t have occurred. Ekureku is big enough to have atleast a cottage hospital but not even a viable health post exist, to talk of a cottage hospital. People are dying in silence while many have taking advantage of this vulnerability to operate in disguised of saving lives thereby causing more harm to the lives they assumed to have been saving. Am sure beyond this even most persons parading themselves as chemist dont even have the requisite knowledge to act in that capacity, some are just doing guessed work with people’s lives. Government should live upto their responsibility of providing for the healthcare of the people, so as not to create room for quackery. My humble submission.
