Former senatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general elections in Cross River State, Thomas Ofem, who left the PDP this past Saturday to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, says he made the switch because “the PDP Is dead in CRS.”
Ofem who spoke exclusively with www.calitown.com shortly after a formal ceremony to welcome him to the APC was held in Ugep, Yakurr LGA, further maintained that he moved to the APC because, “politics is local … I can’t go to another state and play politics. This is my state and the party doing things in Cross River State is the APC.”
On whether he has immediate plans to run for elective office in the next general election, Ofem did offer that it was too early to say and would prefer to rather let things unfold naturally.
He also used the occasion to congratulate his friend and political associate, Peter Abang Ojie, who was same day honoured with the traditional title of “Obol Kofono-noh I of Umor Otutu” (the traditional chief who unifies the people) by the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr LGA, HRM, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng. “It is a recognition that speaks for itself and I must say thank you to my local monarch and congratulations to my brother and friend”, he said.

When we spoke with Ojie, he said he was very happy for this special recognition and honour. “I deeply appreciate the Obol Lopon of Ugep and his council for this title. Specifically, a unifier is what I represent in my dealings with people. I promise to continue to work at unifying people in Ugep, in the state and Nigeria at large.”
