Blessing Onawu, the young lady in Okuni, Ikom LGA, Cross River State, who received several life threatening matchet cuts from her boyfriend, Amba Ubung, after he didn’t see her on St. Valentine’s Day, has insised that she told Ubung, before the unfortunate incident that she didn’t want the relationship again. She however did not give any reason why she wanted out of the relationship.

Onawu, who spoke with Ndoma Akunobor, from her hospital bed, where she is still being treated for multiple matchet cuts, further revealed that Ubung was still trying to beg her to rescind her decision, when they had an argument and he flew into a fit of rage, went home and returned with a matchet, threatening to kill her.

“When he came back with the matchet, I thought he was joking. Then he started walking towards me, I saw that his eyes were red, I started shouting for help and then ran. He chased me with the matchet and I unfortunately fell then he came up to me and started inflicting matchet cuts on me. My younger sister and mother who came to rescue me also received matchet cuts. I bled and lost consciousness but God saved me and I am here receiving treatment”, she said. Other members of her family with varying degrees of matchet cuts are also stable and receiving treatment.

Ubung, arrested and detained in Calabar by the police, is awaiting prosecution.
