Local government elections for chairmanship and councillorship positions in Cross River State will hold on October 26, 2024, the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, CROSIEC, has announced.

The conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries will take place between September 25 to October 15, 2024, while the presentation of list of candidates by political parties to CROSIEC, will follow suit. Collection of forms, will be conducted between October 11 to October 13, 2024.

Campaigns will begin on October 20, 2024 and end on October 25, 2024, a document signed by Ekong Edet Bocco, Chairman of CROSIEC and Lawrence Edu, Secretary of CROSIEC, said.

Local government councils have in the immediate past been run by civil servants after local council elections were not conducted in the state. The release of this timetable and guidelines has increased the flurry of political activities in the state as candidates gear up for the elections.
