Residents of Ene Ita street, New Airport, Calabar South, Cross River State, woke up this morning to the gory sight of an unidentified young man, electrocuted to death.

The young man, believed to be in his 20s and suspectedly staying in Anantigha, Calabar South, sources in the area say, climbed up the electric poles, hoping to steal armoured and allied cables belonging to public power company, Power Holdings Company of Nigeria, PHCN, running through the area. Under the cover of darkness, he had climbed to the top of the poles bearing the power lines and began detaching the cables from the high tension lines when tragedy struck. In an instant, PHCN restored light and he was killed.

At press time this morning, a large gathering of onlookers were gathered at the site of the tragedy, waiting for relevant government agencies to take over the site.
