Part of the carnage in Bogobiri.

We can authoritatively inform that seven male adults are dead and 27 other persons remain in very critical condition after a motorist drove into part of a crowd that lined up the carnival route around Bogobiri, a predominant Hausa settlement in Calabar.

Eyewitnesses told www.calitown.com that the driver of the vehicle, breached security barricades and speedily ran into the pool of carnival spectators after he lost control of that vehicle. The driver immediately exited the vehicle after the carnage and so far remains on the run.

Meanwhile, Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has suspended the carnival, while expressing at the incident. Christian Ita, Ayade’s official spokesman, maintained in a circulating reaction to this ugly incident that the governor is devasted by the incident and has directed security agencies to apprehend the motorist who is on the run.

While sympathizing with the victims and their families, the governor, according to the statement, ordered an immediate investigation into how the motorist was able to get through security barricades and have access to the closed route around Bogobiri.
