Antigha who spoke exclusively with www.calitown.com, in his office at the hospital, further said that unless management changed course, it may be difficult to see staff show the kind of commitment that was the hallmark of the hospital, in the years past.
Pressed for more information, the chairman pointed to the management decision which scrapped the payment of overtime allowances to workers the Joint Health Sector Union, JHSU, workers in the hospital, the non-payment of promotion allowances from 2000 to 2015 as well as the issue of staff non- promotion in the hospital which had to be addressed by legal means, among other shortcomings.
He was particularly unhappy that while management has turned her back on JHSU and her genuine welfare demands, it instead has vigorously pursued the somewhat unsettling appointment of a deputy CMAC against the directives of the Federal Ministry of Health and informed that while several well established health institutions the world over are manned by a hospital administrator, the management of UCTH insists that only those who are medical doctors can manage the hospital.
On his recent election as the union’s chairman in the hospital, Antigha, prayed for support from Union members as he works to deliver on the promises made during his campaign. He added that he plans to build a 600-capacity conference centre for the union, a crèche and follow through with the housing for union members through a mortgage facility that will deliver personal homes to those interested in the 500 membership union.
