Posted on October 4, 2022October 4, 2022 By Admin No Comments on Yakurr Legislature Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Council Chairman

…May Activate Impeachment Process

Mbang, Leader, Yakurr Legislature.

The Legislature in Yakurr Local Government Council, Cross River Central, this afternoon, Tuesday, October 4, 2022, passed a vote of no confidence on the council chairman, Ofem Ebri Obeten.

The action we were informed, became necessary after the council boss reportedly refused to appear before the legislature thrice, to address the legislature on three critical issues; council’s income and expenditure, council’s budget estimates as well as the council’s state of affairs in line with Section 42 subsection 2 & 3 of the Cross River State Local Government, CRSLG, Law (2007) as amended.

The legislature during the session.

The legislature particularly pointed out that the council chairman constantly violates Section 52 sub 2 (b) of the CRSLG Law No. 22 which states that he is “…to ensure spending within the budgetary limits appropriated by the legislative council on work actually done.”

Leader of the legislature, Usang Eteng Mbang, who presided, and nine councillors, who were present at the legislative session, held at the council’s legislative chambers, unanimously agreed to the vote and further notified the council boss in writing that the legislature will commence an impeachment process if the council boss does not respond to the issues raised within seven days. Three councillors were however absent at the session.

The council boss was unavailable for comments at press time.
