11 Medical Students Survive Boat Mishap, Three Feared Dead

Posted on June 24, 2023 By Admin No Comments on 11 Medical Students Survive Boat Mishap, Three Feared Dead

11 Medical students attending the 2023 Nigeria Medical Association Health Week, hosted in Calabar, Cross River State, survived a boat mishap, Saturday afternoon while three others are feared dead.

Sources at the Marina Resort, Calabar, informed www.calitown.com that the students who arrived the resort as part of the social itinerary for the event, boarded a speed boat headed for the nearby Oron beach when high waves tossed the boat they were travelling in, causing it to capsize.

All of the passengers and the man manning the boat were all tossed into the water and some only survived after a nearby Naval Patrol team with divers, took to the water and saved 11 of the students.

As night fell, Saturday, divers were still taking to the water in the hope of getting to the missing three; two medical students from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and one from the University of Uyo. Confidential naval sources in Calabar however maintain that hope of finding the missing three alive, is slim.

Students from across medical schools in Nigeria are in Calabar for the 2023 Nigeria Medical Association Health Week, hosted by the Cross River State branch of NMA and the Medical School in Calabar.
