TRIO, a non-governmental organization operating in Cross River State says it will not relent in her commitment to teaching young girls personal hygiene, how to properly wear their sanitary pads and so save them the accompanying embarrassment of wrong use.

Ntongha Okoi, one of several persons behind the NGO, stated this in Idomi, Yakurr LGA, during a sensitization visit to Community Secondary School, Idomi, as part of activities to commence the organization’s 2021 Pad-a-Girl initiative. He further informed that it has become necessary to carry out this initiative because of the visible information gap as it concerns female personal hygiene and the proper use of the sanitary pad. “What we are doing here today is a personal commitment to fill a gap that we have seen in our immediate environment. We are young people and can easily relate to the challenges several of our young girls face with their personal hygiene and proper use of the sanitary pad. We are also distributing sanitary pads to them because we do understand that some of them cannot afford sanitary pads; we will continue to do more in the days ahead as this initiative is an annual event”, he said.

Principal of the school, Joy Ina, elated by the initiative, commended the group for picking her school to benefit from their work and prayed that more youths in the area will emulate this kind of engagement for the general good of the community.

Clinton Ekoh and Wokeyim Eno, took turns and spoke to the large gathering of female senior secondary students on personal hygiene, menstrual flow and how to wear a pad respectively.
