Organized Labour Begins Strike In Cross River

Organized Labour in Cross River State, (Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and the State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council) has directed workers in the state and local government, to remain at home from tomorrow, Tuesday, October 12, 2021, over the inability of the state governor, Ben Ayade, to meet the demands of Labour in the state.

Labour in the state revealed in a document just released to journalists that it “convened a workers congress on Wednesday 6Th October, 2021 to deliberate on all the outstanding labour issues in the state. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that in view of the numerous ultimatums and reminders given to Government over the issues and Government’s refusal to address them, a further 3 days notice with effect from Thursday 7Th October, to Monday 11Th October, 2021.”

Government she revealed, failed to address these issues and the ultimatu resulting in the withdrawal of the services of workers across the state.

The contentious issues are:
Non implementation of promotions to state and local government workers.

Non payment of gratuities to state and local government workers.

Non remittances of deductions from workers salaries.

Full implementation of minimum wage to state and local government workers.

Non implementation of full 27.5% Teachers Enhancement Allowance.

Stoppage of Tax Exemption and allowance for Teachers.

Stoppage of annual incremental to state and local government workers.

Return of Payroll to both Accountant General and Ministry of Local Government Affairs for State and Local Government respectively.

Payment of salaries to workers wrongfully removed from Local Government Payroll by the Auditor General for Local Government.

Reinstatement of pensioners wrongfully removed from payroll.

Lift of ban on the collection of Check-off Dues from Commercial Drivers by NURTW and Return of NURTW in the state to the Motor Parks.

Immediate stoppage of deductions from workers salaries for laptops without consent.

Payment of Hazard Allowance for Medical and Health Workers and balance of 30% CONHESS.

Inclusion of all staff employed but yet to be payrolled by the state.
