The One Central Campaign Organisation, says it will assiduously work with the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State to ensure that a candidate with capacity and substance will become the next senator representing the Central Senatorial District of the state.

Gerald Odok, Director General, of the organisation made this remark when he led members of the organisation on a visit to the State Working Committee, SWC, of the PDP, to present the senatorial ambition of Wilfred Okpo Usani, a lawyer and former Special Adviser on Tourism Development to Liyel Imoke, former governor of CRS, before the SWC.

He further maintained that their candidate, Wilfred Usani, aspiring to represent the Central Senatorial District in Nigeria’s Senate, has the formidable capacity to midwife a new dawn of representation for the PDP. “We are challenged to present a credible aspirant from the One Central Campaign Organization because we are duty bound to make sure our best hand is put forward”. He solicited the support of the SWC and promised that Usani, with his wealth of experience blended with the audacity of youth, will make the party proud if handed the ticket.

On his part, Wilfred Usani, while addressing the SWC, said it was a great privilege and honour to “be here today to notify you of my decision to begin consultations to fulfill my ambition to represent the people of the Central Senatorial District, CRS, on the platform of our great party, the PDP. So we are all on the same page, it is pertinent to note that because we are the party in opposition, we must be committed to wrestle power away from people in this state who have demonstrated no intention to do anything for our dear state. If we do not step up, run for elective office and take governance responsibility, we will all be in trouble because right now the situation in our state is so critical; there’s so much work to be done. I am a loyal party man who will work within the confines of this party to fulfill my aspiration, I have not come to go to war with anybody, except those who say our movement as a state must be backwards. I am awed by this opportunity to address you and I must thank our Chairman and all of you present here”, he concluded.

State Chairman of the PDP, Venatius Ikem, in his response, thanked Usani and his One Central Campaign Organization for coming through with this ambition. “I am particularly surprised by your ability to unearth a consummate party man like Gerald Odok, who was in the House of Assembly during the regime of former governor Clement Ebri, and make him your campaign DG, it shows clearly that you know how to navigate this political turf. I must reiterate that this Exco will provide a level playing field for all aspirants so that only the best, selected by the people, will represent us, people who will be accountable to the electorate and perform well. Please go to the electorate and sell yourself because the promise we are making for transparency will be upheld.”

Contacted by www.calitown.com, shortly after the engagement, Usani informed us that “since our party, the PDP, has set out to try to stem the drift in our polity, I have decided to join the men and women in our party to make my own contribution in trying to rescue us from this drift. I have by God’s grace been prepared for this office when you consider that I am blessed with 24 post call years under my belt as a lawyer and also that I have been Special Adviser to former governor Liyel Imoke, among other work experiences that I have. Simply, I have put myself forth for service, for the good of all and mankind”, he said.

Usani’s One Central Campaign, will be formally flagged off in Ikom, on February 18, 2022.
