CR: Two School Principals Suspended For Illegal Collection Of Levies

Posted on October 30, 2023 By Admin No Comments on CR: Two School Principals Suspended For Illegal Collection Of Levies
Odey, CR Education Commissioner.

Two secondary school principals, Esang Usang of Government Secondary School, State Housing, Calabar and Owoh Effiong of the West African Peoples Institute, WAPI, Calabar, Cross River State, have been suspended indefinitely from office, after a sting operation revealed that the two principals collected illegal and unapproved levies from their students.

Cross River Commissioner for Education, Stephen Odey, who carried out the sting operation to the two schools, on the heels of incessant complaints from parents of students in the two schools, even discovered from a guardian who came to pay the approved school levies, that the guardian was made to pay money way above what was approved as levies to be paid in school.

When Odey visited three class streams in the schools to find out directly from the students what was paid, it further confirmed his unpleasant discovery. The vice principals in both schools were immediately directed to take over from the two suspended principals.

Recall that Odey had earlier issued a warning to school principals in the state after incessant complaints from parents and guardians over huge extortions carried out by most principals in the state reached his office. While he promised to face the matter head on, the two suspended principals may be leading a long line of principals who will fall to the Ministry of Education’s sting operation.
