Nigeria’s Supreme Court Upholds Otu’s Election As CRS Governor

Nigeria’s apex court, the Supreme Court has upheld the election of Bassey Edet Otu as the governor of Cross River State.

The court affirmed the judgement of the Court of Appeal which had affirmed Otu as the winner of the March 18, 2023 Cross River State governorship election.

The Court of Appeal had in November 2023, dismissed the appeal filed by Sandy Onor, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, for lack of merit.

On September 26, 2023, Onor’s case before the election petition tribunal, also suffered the same fate, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Otu winner of the election with a total of 258,619 votes winning in 15 of the 18 local governments of the state. Onor his closest rival, garnered 179,636 votes.
