CRS Ministry Of Education Warns, Ready To Punish School Principals Over WAEC Fees

Odey, Education Commissioner

The Cross River State Ministry of Education is warning principals of secondary schools in the state, “attempting to admit students into Senior Secondary School III, for WAEC registration after submitting the names of students of CRS origin as earlier directed by the state governor, Bassey Edet Otu, to the Ministry of Education.”

Steve Odey, CRS Commissioner for Education, who signed a release, dated February 5, 2024, containing the warning, further informed the principals that, “the Ministry of Education is in EFFECTIVE custody of the list of students of CRS origin, that have been submitted for WAEC registration to the desk officer by the school principals.”

The release

The Ministry’s statement is specific that, “only students of CRS origin who sat for the 2022/2023 Senior Secondary II Mock Examinations are qualified for this WAEC registration.”

“Principals should bear in mind that the process of payment of WAEC registration fees by the CRS government for students of CRS origin is almost concluded.” School principals were finally advised to adhere strictly to an earlier directive dated 20th November, 2023.

Some school principals in CRS, www.calitown.com investigations show, are attempting to capitalize on the state governor’s demonstrated desire to pay WAEC registration CRS indigenes, by collecting registration fees from non-indigenes, pocketing money so collected while turning around and adding these non-indigenes in their lists as indigenes.
