Obudu Ranch Resort Mudslide: Food Shortage Worries

Posted on October 19, 2013 By Admin 1 Comment on Obudu Ranch Resort Mudslide: Food Shortage Worries

There are fears being expressed in several quarters that Tuesday and Thursday’s mudslide at Cross River’s Obudu Ranch Resort, may result in food shortages for the indigenous Becheve community at the top of the mountain, calitown.com can authoritatively reveal.

Sunday Akwaya, a native of the community, on the line from Sankwala, Obanliku LGA, told calitown.com that the worries have become necessary considering the slow pace of work to clear debris on four points of the 11km road, the only access road to the resort.

Akwaya maintained that the situation has also grounded economic activities in the area just like vehicular movement to and from the resort has not been
possible since the mudslide occured. He pleaded with government to expedite action and help clear the debris so that normal economic activities can resume at the top of the resort.

Meanwhile, lingering concerns for the safety of tourists have been addressed by the Cross River State government which disclosed in a statement in the aftermath of the mudsilde that the resort was not affected by the mudslide.
