Posted on January 10, 2025 By Admin No Comments on CRSG Intervenes, To Pay N399.7 Million As WAEC Fees For Indigent Students

The Cross River State Government will again embark on the payment of West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, fees for indigenes of the state in the new year.

Government House sources in Calabar, the state capital, confirmed to www.calitown.com that already, an Executive Council memo for WAEC registration of indigenous students for May/June 2025 examinations has been approved by the State Executive Council.

Accordingly, state governor, Bassey Edet Otu, has granted approval for the release of N399,708,000.00 to register 14, 804 candidates of Cross River State origin for the 2025 WAEC Examination at a cost of N27,000.00 per candidate.

State Commissioner for Education, Stephen Odey, who authored the memo, is said to have also proposed free tuition for all pupils/students of Cross River State origin in public primary and secondary schools in the state, as government’s direct response to making things easier for parents and students in the state.

Recall that in 2024, 16,301 candidates of Cross River origin, benefitted from this gesture with N440.1 million expended. 72.1% of those candidates that year, got five credits and above, including English and Mathematics in the 2023 released WASSCE results.
