
Several prominent politicians from across the country, associates, friends, well wishers and community members, stormed Ekori community in Yakurr LGA, Cross River State, as Yibala Igri Inyang, Chairman, Yakurr LGA, was conferred with the traditional title of “Obol Nkpeli I of Ekori”, at a civic reception at the instance of the Ekori traditional institution and the Ekori Development Union.
In an address read at the occasion, the Ekori community was specific that, for over two decades, she has striven to produce a chairman of council without success. “It is against this background that we feel elated to finally have one of our illustrious sons occupying that office today.” Continuing, the community came clear that, the civic reception was a celebration of Inyang’s ascension to the office of Chairman, Yakurr LGA and remain confident that “given his antecedents, he will do well and deliver on his campaign promises.”
The community further expressed appreciation to state governor, Bassey Edet Otu, “…whose support and contribution led to the realisation of this dream.”
Inyang in his response, shortly after he was capped by the Obol Lopon of Ekori, HRH, Obol Donatus Ibor Ofem, said he was “humbled and honoured by the chieftaincy conferred on me as the ‘Obol Nkpeli I of Ekori’ (King of Development). This is not just a personal recognition, it is a call to greater responsibility, a sacred trust handed to me by my people and a reminder of our shared dream for a better Ekori and Yakurr at large.”
Present at the event were Eteng Williams, senator representing CR Central, Alex Egbona, representing Abi/Yakurr federal constituency in the House of Reps, Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the CRSHA, former House of Reps member, Bassey Eko Ewa, several council chairmen, state government officials, political heavyweights, just like ALGON, the umbrella body of council chairmen across the nation, sent in a representative.
