The Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Cross River State Chapter, has sought the support and partnership of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Florence Banku Obion empowerment initiatives for women in the state.

Wife of the Cross River State Police Commissioner, Lynda Afegbua, stated this when she led members of the association on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor.

Afegbua noted that the visit was part of their familiarization tour since our assumption of office, as POWA continues to strengthen relationships with key institutions and stakeholders within the state.

“We deemed it important to identify with your dynamic administration, one that has brought stability, innovation, and impact to the University of Calabar community. Your leadership has been truly exemplary, and as mothers, wives, and women dedicated to building stronger families and communities, we deeply admire your efforts in advancing education, gender inclusivity, and institutional excellence.

“The Police Officers’ Wives Association is committed to empowering police wives and widows through capacity-building, skills acquisition, and welfare programmes. We believe that when women are empowered, families are strengthened, and by extension, society becomes safer and more productive.

“We are here today to identify with your administration and also to humbly solicit your support and partnership in our women empowerment initiatives. Together, we can create opportunities that uplift women, especially those who sacrifice daily in support of their husbands and families serving our nation,” she said.

In her response, the VC thanked them for the visit and assured them of her commitment and support in all their activities in the state.
