Chairman of the Cross River State Local Government Service Commission, Darlington Bassey Eyo, has resigned as Chairman of the Commission, after the Commission was largely fingered in an employment racketeering scheme that seemingly made mince meat of the good intentions of the state government.
In a statement made available from Government House, Calabar, state governor, Bassey Edet Otu, while accepting the resignation, suspended “the compromised recruitment process, pending a transparent and merit-driven review.”
The governor further disclosed in his statement that, “a special committee will be set up to investigate the matter, identify those responsible, and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions.”
Recall that www.calitown.com had reported last week in an investigative report that, the employment exercise was “hijacked by a syndicate of persons, working within and outside the state civil service, for personal gains.”
“In several instances, vacancies, especially in the local government service, were sold for as high as ?500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) for graduate entry positions while lesser entry positions were sold for between N200, 000 (two hundred thousand naira) or higher, depending on the negotiating ability of the vacancy buyer”, it was reported in our story.
