Henry Bassey, who holds the traditional title of “Ovai Otorikang I of Ebom Eburutu”, Abi LGA, Cross River State, says he remains “unshaken in the belief that the foundation to a great future lies in education” and insists, he will continue to do his best to support young Cross Riverians, at home and abroad.
Bassey who made this remark on the heels of a series of free Computer-Based Tests, CBT, training sessions for JAMB candidates in Abi and Yakurr, single handedly sponsored by him, further maintained that when opportunities like the CBT trainings are domesticated at the grassroots, like he has done, it leaves young people at that level with skills that can help them fit into a dynamic and ever changing world.
He enjoined beneficiaries to show dedication and commitment to knowledge being shared with them as he has concluded plans to continue with his coordinated plans of laying a solid educational foundation for the young people of Abi/Yakurr.
Coordinator of the project, Ikwo Etowa, said the training sessions will run continuously across Abi and Yakurr for a month and demonstrates “Chief Henry Bassey’s unwavering commitment towards improving the educational foundation and competitiveness of young scholars within Abi and Yakurr.”
Trainers at the training, Okoi Ubi and Emmanuel Bassey, were elated with the students’ progress and encouraged them to study hard, assuring them that their efforts would pay off. They praised the sponsor of the training for the foresight and drive that has birthed the trainings and further prayed that God will give him the resources to continue his good works among his people.
At the end of the session in Ugep, one of the students stood up to express her heartfelt gratitude. With a beaming smile, she thanked the Ovai Otorikang 1 of Bahumono for the opportunity, saying the training had given her and her peers a deeper understanding of how the main JAMB Exams will look like.To aid continuous development, the CBT app was installed and activated for free on the phones of participating students who scored 250 and above, a token of appreciation for their hard work. The sessions are designed to teach the students CBT practice, time management, and test-taking strategies, and strategies for tackling challenging questions.
The training sessions designed to take place across several centres in Abi and Yakurr have already been completed in Itigidi and Ugep, with more sessions planned for Ediba in the coming week.
