Low Marks For Xmas Village Location On Marian

Posted on December 9, 2013 By Admin No Comments on Low Marks For Xmas Village Location On Marian

It is becoming clear by the day that the decision by government to have the Calabar Xmas village hosted on the grounds of the Calabar Municipal Council secretariat is a bad decision.

“Besides being a place with adjoining offices where serious administrative work is carried out, this Xmas village has further compounded the traffic situation on Marian road and makes driving through Marian now, hellish”, one Edet Okon told calitown.com.

Another source said it was unthinkable that the Xmas festival planners did not consider that the rowdiness of the village will make work for workers at the municipal council difficult. “I work in the municipal council and this Xmas village is now where almost all our staff go to, in most instances, they leave their work behind and indulge in the village”, the source revealed.

By far, the traffic experience is something that one other source is not happy about. “I mean, how do you, a right thinking person, take an activity of the magnitude of the Xmas village and put it on the busiest street in Calabar, opposite a big market like Ika Ika Oqua and then you let commuters suffer serious traffic congestion?”, the source asks. It is a reference to the very serious traffic situation that has become Marian road’s lot, since the village opened, last week.

Attempts by calitown.com to speak with a few persons behind the relocation of the village from the grounds of the Cultural Centre to the Municipal Council however proved abortive.
