Obudu LG Chair Irks Electorate

Posted on January 5, 2014 By Admin No Comments on Obudu LG Chair Irks Electorate

It has emerged that the decision of the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Emmanuel Ugbe, to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays in Calabar instead of in Obudu, has not gone down well with his constituents.

On condition of anonymity, one source told calitown.com that “he was not elected to stay in Calabar, more than six hours by road from Obudu. If he was interested in staying in Calabar, he should have sought to be chairman of either Calabar South or Calabar Municipal and not chairman of Obudu LGA”

Those around the chairman have however stood in defence of the council boss’ decision to spend the yuletide holiday outside his LGA. An aide minced no words when he maintained that, “he must not spend Xmas and New Year in Obudu. No law compels him to do so and we must all understand that going to spend time with his family in Calabar is no crime. Maybe those who are insisting that he should have stayed in Obudu, need to see how they can get productive instead of just making noise”.

But again, another source feels that “the chairman’s aide can bad mouth us for insisting that our leader spends time with us. If we do not start now and insist that Emma Ugbe stays more in Obudu, we will be going back to those better forgotten days when our council was run from Calabar. God forbid”.

While the chairman has since returned to Obudu, calitown.com has it on good authority that he has been notified of his people’s displeasure at what is considered in large quarters as abandonment of the electorate.
