Footballers and officials taking part in tomorrow’s African Cup of Nations qualifier taking place at the U. J. Esuene stadium, Calabar are screened for Ebola on a daily basis, it has emerged.

Commissioner for Health, Angela Oyo-Ita, who had earlier stated this while addressing Immunization and Cold Chain Officers from the 18 Local Government Areas in Calabar recently, maintained that given the outbreak of the disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it is imperative that the footballers and officials be screened up to three times a day until they leave adding that this is part of efforts to ensure that the State remains Ebola free.

She added that the CRS has received consignments of infrared thermometers to be used for the screening and stressed the need for health workers to always trace the history of patients as well as their contacts adding that this would go a long way in identifying possible Ebola suspect cases. She further maintained that it is better to contain suspected cases of Ebola rather than sending them back into the communities adding that early isolation and prompt intensive care, gives patients better chance of survival.
