Kate Henshaw Loses House of Reps Bid, Etaba, Jarigbe Win

By Omini Ikpi, with field reports

pdpNollywood actress, Kate Henshaw’s bid to go to the House of Reps, ended late Saturday evening as incumbent, Essien Ayi, beat Henshaw to the Calabar South/Bakassi Federal Constituency seat in an election she tweeted as being “free and fair”, going on to congratulate Ayi, who is making a record third appearance in the lower legislative chamber, www.calitown.com can report.

In the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency primaries, oil and gas businessman, Mike Etaba clinched the ticket even though visible pockets of violence were recorded in Obubra, with forces said to be opposing Etaba attempting a blockade of the Ikom/Calabar/Katsina-Ala highway. Chris Agibe, beat Edward Ogon and incumbent, Chris Etta to pick the Ikom/Book ticket.

Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, will fly the PDP ticket for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, going into the elections proper. His victory has been described as “well deserved”, considering that this is his third attempt at the ticket after two failed attempts remain tucked under his belt.

Akamkpa/Biase which has Daniel Asuquo (Dansuki) and Emil Inyang, going head to head for the seat will hold later Sunday as the security situation on the ground was thought to be unfavourable for a conduct of the primaries, earlier scheduled to hold this Saturday like all others.

Unfortunately, unconfirmed reports say one person may have lost his life in the protests that are believed to have taken place in Obanliku, described as “very tense” by the www.calitown.com reporter on the ground. Former Chairman of Obanliku, Goddy Amanke is not letting anything to chance as Legor Idagbo joined the race to contest for the Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency seat, after abandoning his governorship ambition. Amanke is thought to be on ground and widely embraced by the electorate “while Legor has so much convincing to do on the ground”, as a source told our reporter.
