Ugbo Turns Back On Labour Party

Attempts by the Labour Party in Cross River State to create a political whirlwind after gubernatorial hopeful, Goddy Jedy Agba, shelved plans to run on the party’s platform, appear to have hit the rocks, www.calitown.com can report.

Immediately competent online news platform broke the news of Agba’s shelved plans, the party swiftly moved in on Fidelis Ugbo, offering him the platform to realise his ambition. Ugbo, who was in the state to attend a book launch is believed to have told the Labour Party officials that he is a bona fide member of the PDP and may wish to remain so. A source within the party however told www.calitown.com that, “the man gave us conditions that I cannot communicate to you at this point because we are still talking”.

A family source also confirmed that Ugbo “has not moved to the Labour Party…in fact I just dropped him off at the airport, after honouring an invitation to a book launch. He is going back to Abuja. If something like that happens, you can be sure it will not be hidden and then too, we will appropriately inform you”.

In the face of the bitter disagreement that is a direct fallout of the PDP primaries at all levels in the state, most candidates who lost out (especially those who believe their failure at the primaries was masterminded by the establishment), have taken to the Labour Party, insisting on contesting the forthcoming polls. Austin Ibok, State Chairman of the Party, earlier in an interview published by www.calitown.com, insists that his Party “is a credible option with the capacity to challenge the dominance of the PDP in CRS”. Whether this is so will be seen in the days ahead as some high-profile members of the PDP in CRS have since moved over to the party.
