John Gaul Lebo, Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly says that it has become necessary to review the laws of Cross River state in order to re-position them for effective service delivery in line with current realities and such a that review would help the Assembly meet the expectations of the people.

The Speaker made the submission when he granted audience to the Law officers Association of Nigeria, LOAN, Cross River State Chapter, in his office. He further observed that some of the state laws were obsolete and not consistent with the current affairs of the state and that the need to reform the justice system in the state is long overdue.

He pledged the Assembly’s readiness to accord the Law Officers the necessary support needed to enable them perform better, reiterating that issues concerning their welfare, capacity building, remuneration and practicing fees would be adequately addressed.

Leader of the LOAN delegation, Amajama Eneji, urged the Speaker to look into issues of remuneration, training, capacity building, payment of practicing fees as well as welfare of members of the Association which he lamented were not given due priority by government, just like Peter Bassey, a LOAN member on the delegation reaffirmed the commitment of the Law Officers in the state to ensure the success of the Legal system as well as the success of the present administration while pledging the Association’s position to vigorously adhere, against all odds, to the doctrine of justice and fairness in the discharge of duties.
