Strike Begins In CR, October 2

Posted on September 29, 2015September 29, 2015 By Admin No Comments on Strike Begins In CR, October 2

Copy of NEW LOGO OF CRSSources within the Labour movement in Cross River State have informed www.calitown.com that if the Cross River State Government does not act, and fast too, it may bear the brunt of a crippling strike action to be embarked upon by civil servants in the state. Already, plans have been concluded by Labour to down tools from this Friday, October 2, 2015.

Asked for reasons why Labour is insisting on going ahead with the strike action, one source insists that, “Civil servants in the state are unhappy that government has not paid gratuity to retirees since 2012 You can imagine too that we are working and not getting due promotions”. Additionally, the source continues, “we see no reason why salaries of local government staff are held back and people working in our local government system are passing through very tough times because of this and then too, why are the deductions from our salaries not paid into appropriate accounts? This is a government that has refused to pay imprest, a statutory payment for the running of our offices and you expect us to continue working for it?”.

We also scooped that Labour has made several attempts to meet with state governor, Ben Ayade and iron out these issues but, “the governor has not created time for that interaction and we are sure that when he goes to work and there’s no civil servant working, he will understand that the issues we have raised cannot be swept under the carpet; it is the reality”, another source added.

If the strike action goes ahead, its crippling effect will be felt all over, especially that the economy of the state revolves around her civil service.
