“I Have Been Repeatedly Threatened By…” – Betta Edu

Posted on February 11, 2017 By Admin No Comments on “I Have Been Repeatedly Threatened By…” – Betta Edu

Betta Edu
Director General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Agency, Betta Edu, has informed www.calitown.com that she has been receiving several text messages and phone calls from some faceless people, determined to make her backtrack efforts being presently made, to sanitize the Primary Health Care, PHC, system in the state. Specifically, Edu believes those who injected several ghost names into the PHC payroll, appear hell bent on ensuring that the milking of the state’s lean financial resources, continue.

Edu, who spoke exclusively with www.calitown.com, on the heels of the on-going re-verification exercise for PHC staff across the state, added that, unfortunately for those who have been threatening her, there is a greater commitment on her part to drive the PHC reform process to a logical conclusion.

The DG also disclosed that in the course of the re-verification exercise, it was discovered that several PHC personnel in the state, lack the requisite qualifications to function in their present capacities. “We saw people who claim to be PHC staff, approach us for verification without certificates but with flimsy excuses like the cat in their house tore their certificate. Some said flood waters carried their certificates and you know that without legal proof, like a sworn affidavit in court, that kind of excuse won’t fly”, she said.

We could also glean from her that several well placed people, may have overtime used the CRS PHC system as a job settlement platform for relations and cronies. Hear her; “we cannot let this continue. Imagine that these people who are not qualified are left in a primary health facility and your mother walks in and gets administered an overdose of a drug like Diazepam, it will be fatal I must say. Please we cannot put our people in the rural area or anywhere at risk, medically, it is what we are pursuing in the Agency”, she concluded.
