Calabar South Residents Chase PHCN Staff, Shut Office

Posted on October 15, 2018October 15, 2018 By Admin No Comments on Calabar South Residents Chase PHCN Staff, Shut Office
The PHCN Office under lock and key this morning.

Calabar: Staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, attached to Calabar South Area Office on Atu Street, Calabar, were this morning chased away from their office as a mild protest by residents of the area shut down the PHCN office in the area.

The residents who protested under the Concerned Residents for A Better Calabar South group, www.calitown.com can report, rose up early to confront the electricity company for consistent failure to provide the area with stable electricity even though the company has been tireless in billing consumers in the area.

Click to watch video of the protest below:

Several men, women and children, blocked the entrance to the office, chanting anti-PHCN songs and bearing placards. Charles Kutman, Greg Effiong and Eze Paul, residents of the area, maintained that the protest was overdue as PHCN has shown no desire to restore public power supply to Calabar South. They were bitter that the PHCN action has had negative consequences on the economy of the area.

Amazingly, while the protest was going on, public power supply was restored to the protesting Atu Street and adjoining areas, an action that drew a furious reaction from the protesters. Attempts by www.calitown.com to speak with George Chinwo, identified to www.calitown.com as PHCN’s Business Manager on 08090264455, proved abortive as he did not respond to calls put to him. We gather that the protest and lock down will last for one day.
