
The police in Calabar, Cross River State, say they successfully foiled an attempt by men, suspected armed robbers, to sneak out of Calabar, a snatched Toyota Camry.
“On the 5th of October, 2025, at about 2230 hrs, a Toyota Camry, grey colour with registration number, YAD 549 ER, belonging to one Ikyum Mark of Etta Agbor Layout, Hall 2 by University of Calabar was forcefully snatched from the owner at gun point”, police sources said.

The victim is said to have promptly reported the incident to the Anti- Cultism Base in Calabar, causing the circulation of radio messages to the Police Control Room and other patrol teams at night. Luck ran out of the suspecte when they were sighted by a tactical unit attached to Operation Sting and stationed at PAMOL checkpoint along the Calabar/Odukpani highway. When the vehicle flagged down, the suspects made a sharp u-turn and attempted to escape.
As the police were hot on their heels, the suspect’s were force to abandon the vehicle and fled on foot into the nearby bush, under the cover of the night. While the vehicle was immediately recovered by the police, it has been secured at the state CID for investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Cross River State, Rashid B. Afegbua, commenting on this incident, noted that the prompt report of incidents of this nature often disrupts criminal activities and increase police response capacity. He encouraged residents of the state to continue volunteering information to the police so that together, Cross River State can be made crime free.
