Alphonsus Eba, Cross River State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has written an open letter to Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, decrying the plight of Nigerians, barely 24 hours after Nigeria’s National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, increased the pump price for petrol.
Eba, wrote: “Our dear President Tinubu, I write to salute your tireless efforts in your quest to making life better for Nigerians and to humbly appeal to you to call NNPCL to order before we incur the wrath of Nigerians.”
“I have been at the forefront of defending your Renewed Hope reforms and I have prayed and worked so hard for it to come into fruition. Sadly, just when the long anticipated Dangote Refinery commenced production today 3rd September 2024, NNPCL has done the unimaginable by increasing the pump price of fuel and the cries of all Nigerians including your genuine supporters is very loud and may be louder in the days and months to come if nothing is done about it.”
“Your Excellency sir, I beg you in the name of God to do everything humanly possible to reverse this sad increment or at best, introduce partial subsidy to ameliorate this painful situation which is at the substratum of both social security and food security to avoid any untold crisis that this may precipitate.”
“As we meet for our NEC on the 12th of September, 2024, I will reiterate this appeal with the best of intentions to save our party’s soul from premature political death.”
“Your Excellency sir, I think it is time to negotiate with Dangote to fix fuel prices for Nigerians at reasonable subsidized cost. I am totally against this price increment which is a harbinger that may consume our party’s electoral fortunes in the years to come ( God Forbid ).”
“The welfare and happiness of our people is and should be our centerpiece and focus now.”
“I remain your sincere, trusted, reliable & loyal party man, diehard supporter and strongest believer in your ability to save Nigeria.”
The letter, signed and published on his verified Facebook handle, is currently trending on social media and drawing commendation to Eba, for speaking the minds of Nigerians to the President.
In large parts of Cross River State and across the country, the price of petrol has hit N1,500 a litre, from N850 a litre, following NNPCL’s announcement of a new price regime for petrol.
