Former Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogoja Local Government Area, Cross River North, Martha Abang, has dumped the PDP and is poised to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, in a move that seemingly reflects the movement of the political tide in Ogoja LGA and large parts of Cross River North.
Abang’s letter of resignation from the PDP, dated November 14, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman, Mbube West Ward II, Ogoja LGA, and sighted by www.calitown.com, said her defection to the APC was done “after wide consultations and engagements with family, friends, political associates and supporters.” The decampee who was at one time or the other, Supervisor for Health, Supervisor for Education in Ogoja LGA and former S.A on Local Government Affairs, former S.A, World Bank project, during the Ben Ayade administration in CRS, did not attach in writing, the reasons behind this political decision.
Contacted over the telephone, Martha Abang, known popularly in political circles as “Matata”, exclusively explained to www.calitown.com that her movement “is driven by and compliments the political movement to the APC from PDP of the political family I belong to. Without any doubt, that family is led by my senator, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe. Like he has said, we are joining hands with our State governor, Bassey Edet Otu, in support of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, to continue the good work so far done by Tinubu in the interest of our country.”
Abang urged her supporters from the PDP to accordingly switch camp and show support to Cross River State governor, Bassey Edet Otu, as reward for visible work so far done and in anticipation of greater things to come in the state. She further emphasized that support for Tinubu’s second term in office, “must be total.”
