Egbona Arrives Calabar, Dedicates Election Victory To Abi/Yakurr People

By Kelvin Idaka

Egbona displays his Certificate of Return shortly after his arrival in Calabar.

Alex Egbona, poised to represent Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives has promised to work for the prosperity and well-being of the people of his constituency, just as he dedicated his victory at the polls to his constituency.

Egbona who said this at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, shortly after arriving from Abuja where he had gone to collect his Certificate of Return, minced no words when he said that, “…it is with a heart full of joy and thanksgiving that we exalt the Almighty God for the resounding victory that He granted us in the February 23rd Presidential and National Assembly elections and the successful collection of Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.Therefore, with utmost gratitude and humility, I wholeheartedly accept the mandate that you, the good people of Abi/Yakurr have, again, bestowed on me. This victory does not belong to me alone, it belongs to all of us, our political leaders and other stakeholders irrespective of party affiliations; the market men and women, Okada riders, petty traders, other artisans, town union and community leaders, the clergy, our revered traditional rulers, civil servants, the farmers, the professional class, youth and women groups, students and others who are the true heroes of our democracy.”

Continuing, he added that; “I am deeply humbled that you have, once again, invested your trust and faith in our team. It is now for me and my able team to continue to work for you. In truth, the victory is not a winner-takes-all situation, in the spirit of brotherhood, like we have always preached, everyone is a winner.”

He extended a hand of friendship and partnership to fellow contestants and invited all of them to join hands with him so that together, a better constituency, to the glory of God, will be built.

For INEC, Egbona saluted her for a job well done and for keeping faith with the collective dream building for Nigeria an acceptable democratic process.

Finally, Egbona told the crowd of party people and well wishers that, “I am confident that by the special grace of God and with your continuing co-operation and prayers, all things concerning Abi/Yakurr will continue to work for our collective good.”
